FAQ

What is a pass issuer?

A pass issuer is the organisation or service that creates digital passes and issues them to customers' wallets. The issuer also manages those passes after issuance - updates, expiry, revocation, and every other lifecycle change.

Google Wallet formally calls this entity a Pass Issuer, and explicitly includes providers that issue passes on behalf of other organisations. Apple never uses the word, but the role is identical: whoever holds the Pass Type ID and its signing certificate is the issuer.

So you have a choice. Become your own pass issuer - your own Google issuer account, Apple Developer account, signing certificates, and push infrastructure, maintained forever - or use PassIssuer to be one for you.

What is a wallet pass?

A wallet pass is a digital card stored in Apple Wallet or Google Wallet. It can be used for loyalty, memberships, coupons, gift cards, tickets, or custom customer programs.

Does the customer need to install an app?

No. Customers add the pass from a link or QR code to the wallet app on their phone. You do not need to ship a customer app or go through an app store.

Do we have to migrate our customer data to PassIssuer?

No. Your CRM, ticketing system, or database stays the source of truth. PassIssuer stores only what the pass needs to render, and stays in sync through APIs, webhooks, or imports. That also keeps the GDPR conversation short.

Does it work on iPhone and Android?

Yes. PassIssuer supports Apple Wallet on iPhone and Google Wallet on Android, so one program can serve both major wallet platforms.

Can passes be updated after they are issued?

Yes. You can update fields such as balances, tiers, expiry dates, rewards, locations, or event details after the pass is already in the customer's wallet.

Can you integrate with our CRM, POS, ecommerce, ticketing, or backend?

Yes. PassIssuer can connect wallet-pass issuing, updates, and redemption events to your existing systems through APIs, webhooks, imports, or custom integration work.

Can you build custom issuing or redemption flows?

Yes. We can scope custom flows for branded signup, eligibility checks, approval steps, location-specific redemption, partner rules, or internal verification.

Can we start with a pilot before a full rollout?

Yes. Most engagements start that way: a scoped pilot agreed per organisation — one program, segment, or location — to validate the flow, integration needs, and rollout process before expanding.
